Meeting God in Either Direction

Feeling the Light

Aug 5, 2021

Saying For Today: There is nowhere to meet God, yet you meet God.

Seeker

Sir, where do I go
to meet God?
Some say inside,
some outside.

Sage

If you go inside,
God is outside.
If you go outside,
God is inside.

Seeker

So, what
am I to do?
I can't go in
two directions at once.

Sage

Forget inside and outside -
just go, and you
will meet God.

In a subtle sense, "inside" means intimacy. This inside is not about location. So, outside or inside is where we go. And inside or outside is where we are.

We begin the Path with a sense of experiencing Presence inside and outside. This alternates. We may go to meditation to go within. We may go for a walk to experience the Sacred in nature.

In time, the sense of inside and outside begins to merge in the Unity. For example, we begin to sense inside while walking along a nature trail and mindful of sights, sounds, and scents. In meditation, we find an expansion of our sense of what is outside the physical body. The relativity of location is absorbed back into the nonlocality of spirit.

The sense of inside and outside can shift. Sometimes meditating, I feel as though consciousness is going within. At other times, I sense consciousness expands to embrace what is outside my body.

The Way is either and both ways. When wakeful, either direction is a luminous intimacy. There is nowhere to meet God, yet you meet God.
